There's nowhere quite like Gibraltar, and its unique appeal is what makes it such an enduring port of call for cruise ships on Mediterranean and North African itineraries.
Gibraltar cruises will take you on a journey to a fascinating British overseas territory rich in history, which borders Spain and overlooks the African coast, facets which combine to offer a truly contrasting but complimentary cruise experience.
Due to its small size, it's possible for you to explore many of Gibraltar's attractions as part of your cruise excursion. All Gibraltar cruises will offer an exploration of The Rock, the region's most famous landmark and home to a host of captivating attractions.
The Meditteranean Steps are one of the island's key attractions and if you're fit and have enough time, they're a great way to scale the rock and enjoy some breathtaking views. A more relaxed way to reach the top however, is by cable car and it's likely you'll travel on this as part of your excursion.
Once you're at the top, take a while to savour the view of and meet Gibraltar's most famous residents at the Apes Den. The friendly Barbary Macaques are Europe's only remaining breed of monkey and are what the region is most famous for. Behave sensibly and be sure not to feed them (unless you want a fine of up to £500!) and you can watch the monkeys at play or sit by them for a memorable photo opportunity.
Deep within The Rock meanwhile, you can find more of Gibraltar's key attractions, such as St Michael's Cave. Fashioned from the Rock's limestone over thousands of years, it's one many caves in Gibraltar and the most visited.
You'll witness amazing formations on your way towards the auditorium, the caves' main chamber, which plays host to a number of concerts and is also home to a huge fallen stalagmite. The Great Siege Tunnels and World War II Tunnels meanwhile, both offer a fascinating look at two different points in Gibraltar's history.
Off The Rock itself, Europa Point offers the chance to see the coast of North Africa and is a great place for a photo opportunity. It's also home to the Mosque of Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim and the striking red and white lighthouse.
The Moorish Castle Complex is another popular place to visit, a medieval fortification which offers a fascinating glimpse of Gibraltar during its occupation by the Moors. Main Street, meanwhile, is the perfect place to seek out a duty-free bargain or two before heading back to your cruise ship.
