Kralendijk is the capital of Bonaire, an island in the Caribbean Sea. Unlike many Caribbean islands, it isn’t famous for its beaches – but that doesn’t mean that the coast isn’t the place to be. Instead Bonaire’s most beautiful spots are located under the water. It’s one of the world’s finest spots for snorkelling and diving, with the opportunity to see a whole treasure trove of submarine flora and fauna on every trip. Make sure you don’t miss the chance to get up close to this outstanding tropical scenery, with plenty of beginner snorkelling options available for newbies.
In the town itself, there’s plenty of shops and stalls, restaurants and bars to explore. Everything is very central too, so you can take a relaxing stroll along the docks and pier, and soak in the lively atmosphere. Alternatively, if you do want to get out and explore on foot, you can hop on a water taxi for a trip to the uninhabited Little Bonaire, a nearby island which does have a picturesque beach to wander. Again it is also home to excellent snorkeling facilities.
The US Dollar is the official currency of Kralendijk. Kralendijk is 4 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT -4).
